Pronoun agreement, indefinite pronouns: Most indefinite pronouns are singular, but be aware of some that are, by definition, plural.

 

One of the teams wants to do their presentation on Saturday. (Incorrect)

One of the teams wants to do its presentation on Saturday. (Correct)

 

Everybody wants to show their school pride. (Incorrect)

Everybody wants to show his or her school pride. (Correct)

 

One must consider carefully before giving their phone number away. (Incorrect)

One must consider carefully before giving one’s phone number away.  (Correct)

 

Many feel that his or her bank account numbers are safe.  (Incorrect)

Many feel that their bank account numbers are safe.  (Correct)

 

Some prefer to take his or her vacation in other countries.  (Incorrect)

Some prefer to take their vacation in other countries.  (Correct)
