Actividad B: Crea tu propia pieza de arte
Create your own piece of art
In the following link you will find a reading titled: “Exodo a la tierra prometida” Del demonio y otros monstruos en la obra de Juan de Dios Mora”. https://contemporaneity.pitt.edu/ojs/contemporaneity/article/view/221/205
Juan de Dios Mora is a printmaker and an Assistant Professor at The University of Texas at San Antonio, where he began teaching painting, drawing, and printmaking in 2010. Mora concentrates in the printmaking technique of relief to create narratives of Mexican-American experiences. His experiences living along the border (US and Mexico) provide an awaking of social and political concepts that heavily influence his artistic, aesthetic and conceptual ideas. His artworks’ concepts tell a story of individuals in a surreal and comical exaggeration of the survival instincts. The artwork reveals ingenuity and resourcefulness by improvising and using the available materials, tools, and objects into workable, fashionable, and stylized features.
If you are a student from a different university, you may contact your Art Professor and analyze a piece of art that makes this Professor distinguished in this area.
- Write a list of what you see in this painting, what it means to you.
- What is the purpose of this painting? What is the author trying to convey through this painting? What is the relationship with his art and the topic of immigration? Share your thoughts with your classmates.
- Now is your turn to create a piece of art that reflects who you are. Your Instructor will provide the supplies needed for your drawing.
- You will draw what makes you the person that you are today, your motivation or inspiration.
At the end of the semester, all students will have a Latine Art Exhibition at the UTSA Westside Community Center where students and their families and friends, can enjoy the art work of students from the Spanish as a Heritage Language Program.
