Let’s Talk About Images
Be Sure To…
- Identify if an image needs alternative text
- Guide faculty on how to write alternative text as they are the experts on their faculty
- Ensure alternative text is added to course content
Criteria to Meet
Treat the criteria below as a checklist when reviewing content.
- Images should have meaningful and concise alternative text or captions.
- Try to use captions whenever possible to provide all students with information.
- If you have a caption be sure to add as alt-text “Refer to caption for more information”
- When writing alternative text, do not use the phrase “image of”, “picture of”, or similar wording. This is considered redundant as screen readers know when it encounters an image.
Resources
- Although not required, try to get your students to also get into the habit of adding alternative text to images –
