24 WRC 1013 Portfolio Project
The WRC 1013 final course project is a reflective self-analysis (RSA) essay, which you will include in a portfolio of your writing for the semester.
Reflective Self-Analysis Assignment
Write a 4-5 page (minimum), typed, self-analysis essay in which you critically analyze how your writing this semester illustrates your progress on the four course objectives:
- Critical thinking
- Communication
- Personal responsibility
- Quantitative literacy
Your analysis should include
- An explanation of how each course objective benefits you academically and professionally
- Examples from and analysis of how the different pieces of writing you produced this semester illustrate your progress on the course objectives
- Supporting evidence quoted from the essays in your portfolio, correctly cited in MLA or APA format
Specific Requirements for the Reflective Self-Analysis Essay

- You must use at least 3 major pieces of your writing from this semester as the sources for support or illustration.
- Identify 2-3 specific examples from multiple essays to demonstrate your progress in each course objective.
- Read through the essays, reflections, and other pieces in your working portfolio to find patterns that illustrate your development, or lack thereof, in each of the course objectives.
- Look for development in your writing from the beginning of the semester to the end.
- Use internal citations to credit the specific passages from your writing projects that you used as evidence to support your observations.
- Cite the specific pages in your papers from where you found the evidence to support your observations.
- Format your essay in MLA or APA style (i.e., typed, double-spaced, 12 pt. Times New Roman font).
- Submit your reflective self-analysis essay as the introductory piece of your portfolio.
The Portfolio
Follow your instructor’s individual submission instructions and format
- The portfolio will include at least the following items:
- o Cover Page
- o Table of Contents
- o Your reflective self-analysis with its Works Cited or References placed as the first paper in the portfolio
- o The written pieces you cite as evidence, put in chronological order
- Be sure to include all quantitative literacy assignments in your portfolio/
- This project will be worth 15% of your course grade.
Rubric for Portfolio Assessment
Below are the explanations of the course objectives that your instructors use for assessment. Read these explanations to help analyze your progress in each objective. For example, you might cite development in grammar to illustrate your progression in communication skills.
Core Curriculum Objectives: Communication Component
Courses in the Communication Component focus on developing ideas and expressing them clearly, considering the effect of the message, fostering understanding, and building the skills needed to communicate persuasively. Courses involve the command of oral, written, and visual literacy skills that enable people to exchange messages appropriate to the subject, occasion, and audience.
