If you have a writing assignment, we can help.

The UTSA Writing Center, also called the Judith G. Gardner Center for Writing Excellence, is a peer tutoring center that focuses specifically on writing. The tutors are all students—upperclassmen or grad students of all majors, from English to Sociology to Business and more—with passion and training in written communication.

What can you get help with?

Any writing projects, academics or personal, are welcome. Bring in your argument essays, technical reports, and research papers—as well as cover letters, personal statements, scholarship essays, and even short stories or blog posts.

Whether you’re just getting started brainstorming or you have a completed draft you want to discuss, bring your writing projects to the Writing Center to have a one-on-one conversation with a tutor. Even if you’re already confident in your work, it’s great to have another set of eyes look over your writing. Writing Center tutors make appointments with each other all the time!

How can you make an appointment?

On our website (http://utsa.edu/twc) you will find a link to our appointment system. During normal campus operations, we have in-person tutoring during normal business hours Monday through Friday.

Locations

Main campus – JPL library (JPL 2.01.12D)

Online – http://utsa.mywconline.com

Please have

  1. ) A copy of your draft or outline and
  2. ) The assignment details available for your appointment.

Be ready to have a conversation! Your tutor won’t fix your paper for you, but by discussing your goals and materials, you’ll discover that you’ll become a better writer yourself.

What else does the Writing Center offer?

The Writing Center’s Resources page (utsa.edu/twc/Resources.html) includes handouts, modules, and PowerPoints to address any writing needs. There are interactive modules on the essay writing process that guide development from picking a topic through revision of a final draft. There are handouts covering grammar and mechanics needed for all types of writing. Academic writing is explored through the numerous types of assignments required across disciplines, and links to online writing resources are provided.

The Writing Center also has a computer lab open at JPL 2.01.12C for student use during normal university operations. The Computer Associate is available to answer questions and assist you
