Information

The UTSA Libraries provide the resource, services, and support to help you succeed as a student.  This guide provides some time-saving suggestions to help make your information-seeking more efficient and rewarding.

Questions? Look for the Blue Crew library staff!  They are ready to help you in person at the library or by clicking on the library website chat window.

If you need to find sources for a paper, visit one of the library locations or go directly to the library website to connect to journals, databases, e-books, and much more: lib.utsa.edu

Are you looking for technology? The Front Desk can help you check out laptops, cameras, calculators, headphones, and much more.  Find the complete list on the library website.

The UTSA Libraries are made up of four locations: John Peace Library (Main Campus), AET (Applied Engineering and Technology) Library, Downtown Campus Library, and the UTSA Archives (HemisFiar Park Campus located in downtown San Antonio). All locations share resources.

  • The John Peace Library (JPL) serves the students and faculty on the main UTSA campus. This is the largest library at UTSA, with three floors of resources, study spaces, and computers.
  • The UTSA Downtown Library is located on the second floor of the Buena Vista Street Building. Study spaces, technology services, and in-person help are available.
  • The Applied Engineering and Technology library is located in the AET building on the Main Campus. It is the nation’s first completely bookless library on a university campus.
  • The UTSA Archives, a unit of the Special Collections and Archives Department, is located on the second floor of the Hemisfair Park Campus. Please check for hours of operation and parking information before you visit

Research Help

  • Chat with a librarian online
  • Meet with a subject librarian for your major
  • Access help through the librarian for your major
  • Access help through the library website, chat, or email

Each subject area at UTSA is assigned a research librarian who is an expert in that discipline. These experts can meet with students to help with resources and assignments. If you have questions about Writing Program assignments, you can get help through the Blue Crew chat service on the library homepage: lib.utsa.edu

Online Resources

The library subscribes to online resources in every subject. The resources provide immediate access to articles from newspapers, magazines, and journals.  They may also include access to primary sources, art, streaming music, or films.  Databases can be used on or off-campus.  When accessing a database from off-campus, you will need to log in with your UTSA ID and your passphrase.  If you have any problems or questions, contact the Blue Crew chat window on the library homepage.

To find UTSA Databases, start on the library homepage: lib.uts.edu

  • You can search all of the databases at one time through the Library QuickSearch box in the center of the page, or
  • You can search the individual databases by clicking the Databases link listed under the QuickSearch box. Each database is listed alphabetically, by subject, or by format. If you need help figuring out which database to use, click on the Blue Crew chat box.

Some examples of online resources that may support WRC research topics

  •  Library QuickSearch: Find everything the library owns in one search box.
  • Academic Search Complete or ProQuest: Full-text databases that offer journal articles and magazines on a wide variety of topics.
  • CQ Researcher or Opposing Viewpoints in Context: Full-text databases that focus on current events, topics, and pro/con articles.

 Course Reserves

Look for the Textbooks/Reserves link under the QuickSearch box on the library homepage. Materials that may be place on reserve by your professor include:

  • Textbooks
  • Readings
  • Notes
  • Videos
  • Sample tests and papers

Course Reserve materials are checked out at the Front Desk and are first come, first served. They may be checked out for a short period of time, usually 2 hours.

Copying and Printing

You have access to copiers, printers, and scanners at all library locations. Students enrolled full time receive a $12 print credit each semester. Print jobs can be sent from your laptop, home computer, or mobile device after downloading the PrintSpot software: utsa.edu/techsolutins/students/printing/how.html

Technology

Students have over 400 computers available for check-out. Cameras, recorders, headphones, calculators, clickers, adapters, and more are also available for check-out. The complete list can be found on the library website.

Don’t see what you need? Make a suggestion at the Front Desk!

Collaborative workspaces can save time when working on group projects. Check out TeamSpace and GroupSpot (JPL 2nd floor).

Spaces to Work

Group study rooms can be reserved from your phone, the library website, or a room reservation kiosk at the JPL, Downtown, or AET libraries.  The rooms can be reserved for up to two hours.

Looking for a Quiet Spot to study? Designated Quiet Study areas are available at both the JPL and Downtown libraries.

For group projects, try the JPL GroupSpot (2nd floor), a collaborative study space that provides technology for connected laptops and share documents.
