26 How to Cite in your Reflective Self Analysis

The Works Cited page (MLA) or References page (APA) lists all the pieces of writing included in your reflective self-analysis. Cite yourself throughout the essay, following MLA or APA in-text citation guidelines.  The Works Cited or References page should also follow MLA or APA guidelines.

MLA Examples
The MLA Works Cited page should list works alphabetically by title. When alphabetized, remember to ignore articles like A, An, and The, but keep them in the title.)

  • For the first entry only, provide the author’s name (your name) in this format: last name, first name. For each subsequent entry by the same author, use three hyphens and a period. Here is a specific example:
In-Text Citations should be placed in parenthesis and include:

  • Shortened title (2-3 words, in quotation marks) of the paper you are citing
  • Type of paper
  • Page number

The citation should look like this:

(“SAPA” First Draft 3)

Williams, Amanda. “SAPA and the Journey to a No-Kill City.” Final Draft, University of Texas at San Antonio, 14 Nov. 2022.

—. “SAPA and the Journey to a No-Kill City.” First Draft, University of Texas at San Antonio, 1 Nov. 2022.

—. “To Rescue, or There is No Or.” Final Draft, University of Texas at San Antonio, 10 Oct. 2022.

 

 

APA Examples
The APA Reference Page should list works alphabetically by title of the essay.  (When you alphabetize, ignore articles like, A, An, and The, but keep them in the title.) Since the essays are all from the same year, assign letter suffixes to the year.

  • Your last name, First name initial. (Year and letter suffix). Title of essay in sentence case. Type of publication, University Department, University, City, State.
In-Text Citations should be placed in parentheses and include:

  • Your last name
  • Year
  • The letter of the essay
  • Page Number

The citation should look like this: (Williams, 2017b, p.2)
