History of Ravenna
I. 402-476 CE: Ravenna became the capital of the Western Roman Empire till that empire collapsed.
II. It then became the capital of the Ostrogothic Kingdom until
III. The Byzantine Empire recaptured it in 540.
IV. Following this, it became the center of the Byzantine Exarchate of Ravenna until
the Lombard invasion in 751, when it became the seat of the Kingdom of the Lombards.
