はい vs いいえ in Japanese
はい (hai, yes)

When saying はい (hai, yes), Japanese people usually would nod their heads slightly downward and back to indicate acknowledgment.

  いいえ (iie, no)

When saying no,  Japanese people usually would shake their heads to the left and right, back and forth slightly.

 

Sometimes, people would put their hand slightly in front of their nose and wave their hand from right to left, back and forth, for a few times to gesture “no”. Also, see this Youtube video to learn the hand gesture of “no”.
