Unit 2 | AI in Action: Learning with GenAI in Higher Education

Section 2.4: Building Generative AI Skills for Your Career

Essential Skills for the AI Era

A person's hands are shown interacting with a digital interface displaying an upward trending graph with the words "AI" and "SKILL" illuminated in bright blue and white. The graph is composed of orange bars and an orange arrow indicating growth. A laptop is visible on the left and a smartphone on the right, suggesting a modern technological setting.

Employers want people who can work effectively with GenAI—not people who rely on it blindly. The skills you’re practicing now are transferable to any job:

  • Writing clear prompts.
  • Fact-checking and refining AI output.
  • Choosing the right tool for the task.
  • Understanding ethical and legal considerations.

How to Showcase on Your Résumé

“Applied generative AI tools (Microsoft Copilot, Adobe Firefly) to research, design, and present academic projects, demonstrating ethical use, critical evaluation, and creative problem-solving.”

How to Showcase on LinkedIn:
List “Generative AI Applications” under Skills, and include examples of how you’ve used them in class projects.

Pause & Reflect

Before moving on, give yourself a pause to think about this:

  • How has your view of AI changed after learning about ethics, privacy, and guidelines?
  • What’s one way you could use AI more thoughtfully in your studies this semester?
